Job Title: Librarian Assistant, Children and Youth focus


Status:  Permanent Part-time (12 – 20 hours per week; and occasional on-call as required)


Location: Stewart Public Library


Job Description:  Under the direction of the Chief Librarian, the Library Assistant is responsible for providing direct assistance to Stewart Public Library patrons with a focus on providing Children’s and Youth programming; circulation and stack maintenance of Library items; providing reference services in accordance with the Library’s service delivery; shelving and processing of Inter-Library Loan (ILL) and Interconnect requests; implementation of policies and procedures within the Library; promoting Library materials, programs and services; and other duties as required.


Qualifications: Completion of any accredited American Library Association program is an asset, however on-the-job training will be provided



  • Experience in a public service setting
  • Experience in delivering children and/or youth services, programming, and/or planning
  • Experience working with community organizations
  • Experience working in a diverse population
  • A unique combination of equal or equivalent experiences will be considered



  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to contribute positively and work effectively within a team environment
  • Clear criminal record check
